Course Sequence

1
Beginning Board Design
In Beginning Board Factory, students explore the intersection of art, design, and engineering by designing, building, and riding one skateboard and one longboard. Through hands-on, project-based learning, students apply STEAM concepts in measurement, physics, and design while developing craftsmanship, creativity, and problem-solving skills. The course culminates with an outdoor ride experience, where students test and reflect on their completed boards.
2
Intermediate Board Design
Intermediate Board Factory builds on foundational skills through collaborative board projects, including a snowboard/skis (two students per team) and a paddleboard (three students per team). Students deepen their understanding of design, materials, and production while engaging in authentic ride experiences to test and refine their creations. Boards made in this course remain part of the program, providing future students with access to outdoor recreation opportunities.
3+
Advanced Board Design
In Advanced Board Factory, students take full ownership of the design and manufacturing process, creating a line of custom skateboards, longboards, snowboards, or paddleboards of their choice. Each build concludes with a real-world field experience, where students ride, evaluate, and iterate on their designs. Emphasis is placed on innovation, craftsmanship, and portfolio development, with opportunities to explore entrepreneurship, branding, and industry partnerships. The course may be repeated for advanced projects or internship preparation.
4
Career internship/apprenticeship
Upon completing the Advanced Board Design course, seniors who are ready to take their skills into the professional world may choose one of two distinct career pathways: Advanced Manufacturing Pathway (AMP) & Buisness Administration & Marketing Pathway (BAM). Each pathway is built around active industry partnerships that connect classroom learning directly to Colorado's manufacturing and outdoor recreation economies.
